Research and user testing
One of my first initiatives when joining the Voisey team was to research and user test the app. The objective was to identify key improvements, pain points and quick wins for all user types. The first part of the user testing was to test pre-download, onboarding, record and then general experience while in the app. The research and feedback collected changed the 2022 roadmap. Starting point; self-audit (personal and with team), competitor analysis (personal and workshop), metrics gathering and analysis, and creating persona's. Part 2 was creating assumptions based on the initial research to guide user testing; looking at writing scripts for interview consistency, enrolling music creators at different skill levels, a how to on recording tests, including engineers and PMs in the interviews for full transparency.

Home feed
After the initial user testing, it was clear that there were areas around the original feed design that confused users. Not knowing why there were multiple profiles connected to a voisey (short video), description and splits. After a few concepts, prototype iteration and user testing we had designed a successful update to the home feed.

Record flow
The original record flow was buggy and confusing to users; yet they still loved it. The sound quality from record was unparalleled for mobile apps. Updating the flow had 2 parts to it; improving the UX and ensuring that the UI was able to scale as more features were added and developed. After many iterations and testings we came up with the below.
